The Solar Power Inverter is an Indispensable Piece of Equipment in the Solar Power Generation System

1. An important solar power inverter in the solar system

In any solar system, the solar power inverter plays a vital role like the brain. Its main function is to convert the direct current generated by the solar array into an alternating current. It allows monitoring of the system, so the system operator can observe how the system works. If you are considering installing a solar panel system for your home, one of the key decisions you will make is the type of inverter to install. The solar power inverter converts the direct current (DC) energy produced by the solar panel into usable alternating current (AC) energy. Besides the panel itself, the solar power inverter is the most important piece of equipment in the solar power generation system. The inverter provides analytical information to help identify operation and maintenance to resolve system problems.

2. What is a solar power inverter?

A solar power inverter can be defined as an electrical converter that converts the uneven DC (DC) output of a solar panel to AC (AC). This current can be used in different applications, eg in viable grids or off-grid grids. In photovoltaic systems, it is a dangerous BOS (Balance of System) component that allows the use of common AC-powered equipment. These inverters have some of the features of PV arrays such as maximum power tracking and anti-islanding protection. Inverter selection and installation are important if we are using a solar system in our home. Therefore, the solar power inverter is an indispensable device in the solar power generation system.

3. Solar power inverter and its work

A solar power inverter like a 5kw solar inverter works by taking electricity from a DC power source such as a solar panel and converting it to AC. The generated power ranges from 250 V to 600 V. This conversion process can be done with the help of a set of IGBTs (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors). When these solid-state devices are connected in the form of an H-Bridge, it oscillates from a DC source to an AC source.

A step-up transformer is used so that AC power can be obtained and fed into the grid. Some designers have started designing inverters without transformers, which have higher efficiency than inverters with transformers. In any solar power inverter system, a pre-programmed microcontroller is used to precisely execute the different algorithms. The controller increases the output power of the solar panel with the help of the MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) algorithm.
